The First Unitarian Universalist
Church of Indiana is a community that encourages the responsible search for truth
and understanding through the exchange of ideas, mutual support, and the
pursuit of spiritual freedom for all.
We
are guided in this mission by the seven principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association:
1.
The
inherent worth and dignity of every person.
2.
Justice,
equity, and compassion in human relations.
3.
Acceptance
of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations.
4.
A
free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
5.
The
right of conscience and the use of the democratic process.
6.
The
goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.
7.
Respect
for the interdependent web of all existence.
1.
To
attract more (and more diverse) people to join in our search.
2.
To
maintain an atmosphere of love and respect.
3.
To
involve all members of the church community in church activities, utilizing our
varied skills and interests.
1.
To
provide a safe environment for presenting religious ideas and history without
dogma.
2.
To
encourage individual, spiritual, and personal growth.
3.
To
explore how to live our religion in our daily lives and public service.
1.
To
explore the wishes of our congregation for kinds of ministerial services.
2.
To
explore how additional services would interface with our current resources
(minister-of-record, guest ministers, worship services, program coordination,
adult forum)
3.
To
explore financial possibilities for increased ministerial services.
1.
To
inform actively the local community about UU principles and the benefits of an
open, diverse, and non-judgmental search for spiritual growth.
2.
To
expand our contact with other UU churches and effectively publicize church
principles and activities.
1.
To
promote actively our principles in the local and greater world community
through involvement of members in worthy issues.
2.
To
provide a forum where we and the local community can realize a more humane and
compassionate world.
